Please remember to write about the great evening out I just had.
Went to Audio to see Turning Green. They were as fab as they always are, but different. They're always different. I reckon they draw bits of paper out of a hat to see which style they're gonna play in at each gig. Sometimes its cool & mellow, sometimes it's jazz-funk, sometimes punky and recently they've been experimenting with prog rock.. Tonight they swang right over into Heavy Metal, which was a good idea because the sound system was so crappy anything subtler would have died the death of a thousand cuts. They played all their noisiest singalong tunes [I think the cool word is anthems] and threw in a couple of new ones too. One in particular impressed me as it allowed Dunstan D'Buffalo to really let rip - he really gave it the Mad Axeman treatment - in the past I think he's had trouble putting his head over the parapet for fear of being shot down by the Mad Couple Matt Keys and DanTheDan - but I think a recent upgrade of teccy stuff has given him the confidence to defy their threatening behaviour.
Just by the bye, if you go down to Joogleberry's tomorrow [Thursday 27th September] at 8pm you'll be able to see TG Drummer Sa-M.U.E.L launch his new [the difficult second] album - why not get along there and give him a good send off.
After Turning Green, I went on round to Joogleberry's to see a group I raved about about 3 weeks ago when I'd seen them at the Ocean Rooms. That was A Scandal in Bohemia. They were up to full strength tonight and really blew the over capacity crowd away. A mixture of Electronica, Free-Form Jazz, Classical Singing and The Kitchen Sink thrown in too, this 6-piece band who are all very talented multi-instrumentalsits excited and enthralled the audience for an hour which flashed by leaving everyone stunned but wanting more. How they manage to keep the huge amount of instruments correctly miked up while they constantly move around and not tie the cables in knots is a mystery and probably an intentional part of the entertainment. It'll be a Scandal if they don't get recognised by a major promoter for the brilliantly original act they are pretty soon, but a sad loss to Brighton if they end up touring the rest of the World which they deserve to do. They mentioned changing their name, but I think that would be a great shame.
Oh dear - I just realised I've finished writing about the evening so I'd better scrap that Note to Self.
