Below I review a CD entitled ‘Heavy Petal’ by Turning Green and give it a mighty thumbs up. Well, I have to report that they’re even better live. I went down to a gig at the Old King and Queen in Brighton in December and was delighted by their unique blend of punky head-banging jazz-funk. They’re just what the Spin Doctor ordered and deserve to go all the way to the top (as we used to say in old wireless-land speak). You can help them achieve this by visiting their website www.turning-green.co.uk to order their product and find out where to see them in your locality. Tell them Abi sent you!
Turning Green:
Heavy PetalNow this is real music, well-planned and executed excursions into the realms of virgin-fresh experimental pop. A quartet of seriously accomplished musicians have put their heads and bodies together to produce a well co-ordinated attempt to give us something very different. Drawing on a variety of styles – funk, jazz, blues, and more - they conspire to make noises which entangle the listener in their magical web of terpsichore (look it up!). The gossamer thread which entraps us and helps bind the whole mix into the startlingly successful sound it is, is the fantastic GROOVE they build into each and every song. And that, my friend, is what music is all about!
