Carl Orff: Carmina Burana
Claire Rutter, Tom Randle, Markus Eiche
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, Marin Alsop
Carmina Burana has to be one piece of music even the most viscious classical haters can't really deny stirs the soul and that for most normal humans familiarity will never breed contempt. High Chief Snobs of the First Order may be above being excited by the opening bars of O Fortuna, but for most of us, they deepen our absolute adoration of the work. It truly is Classical Music for the Modern Age. And long may it remain so.
This recording is clear and crisp and should stand up well alongside most others available, so as usual I have to say that Naxos knocks spots off its competition by its quality and pricing. If you don't yet own a copy of this magnificent work or you want another one to add to your collection, you should make it this one.
